3° MASTER MASON

The Master Mason Degree is the crown of the Blue Lodge and confers Freemasonry's central lesson. The candidate is "raised" and instructed in the legend of Hiram Abiff, the builder of King Solomon's Temple, whose fidelity even unto death teaches every Mason to hold his obligations above all worldly reward. The Trowel, the working tool of this degree, is used to spread the cement of brotherly love and affection. Having been raised a Master Mason, a man gains full membership rights in the Craft, including the right to vote, hold office, and, if he chooses, petition for further Masonic light in appendant bodies such as the Scottish Rite.
